For over fifteen years, DDP Global Principal Matt Decker has been at the center of international politics. He has assisted foreign countries, multinational corporations, and trade promotion organizations in pursuing their various political and commercial interests around the globe. With a unique expertise in international government relations and an intimate knowledge of Washington’s diplomatic community, Matt has represented the interests of his clients in over 120 countries.

As part of his international consulting work, Matt delivers speeches and informational seminars to foreign government officials and business leaders around the world. He lectures regularly on American politics and international relations at a number of universities abroad, including Oxford University, the University of Tokyo, Israeli National Defense College, the Netherlands Defense College, St. Andrews University, the Colombia War College, University of Mumbai, Norwegian Defense College, University of Zurich, the China Foreign Affairs University, the Chinese University of Hong Kong and the London School of Economics, among others.

In 2005, Matt designed and implemented a series of training programs in Washington DC for newly arriving Ambassadors, diplomats, military officers and foreign business leaders. With the participation and sponsorship of his corporate clients, these seminars are delivered several times each year. In 2013, Matt trained officials from more than 100 countries.

Previously, Matt served as the congressional and political advisor to the British Embassy in Washington, DC. There, he provided Her Majesty’s Government with an insider’s perspective on American politics, the federal government and the legislative process. His primary responsibilities were to enhance the British Government’s influence within Congress and the Administration, provide comprehensive analysis and insight on political developments in the United States, and direct strategic efforts on legislation affecting the interests of the United Kingdom.

Matt also served as a political advisor to the Japanese Embassy in Washington, DC. Similar to his role with the British, he advised the Government of Japan on all aspects of US politics and the federal policy process. His particular focus was on international trade policy affecting the interests of Japan. Specifically he was brought in to help guide the Japanese Embassy through the US debate over granting Permanent Normal Trade Relations to the People’s Republic of China.

Matt has many years’ experience working for the US Congress. He served as an international trade and foreign policy advisor to Congressman Mark Souder of Indiana.

Matt is a graduate of Indiana University, with a bachelor’s degree in political science. He also holds a master’s degree in political management from The George Washington University in Washington, DC.
